Quinton Byfield is seen as a star of the future in the NHL, but it appears that the LA Kings are now ready to move him for a major upgrade at the deadline.

The Los Angeles Kings currently sit in third place in the Pacific Division, and with the Oilers and Golden Knights both flying ahead of them, they may find themselves wanting to make a major upgrade at the trade deadline.

While that involves an upgrade that means them needing to move a young player, nobody quite believed that it was Quinton Byfield that could be available, but according to Nick Kypreos, that may just be the case.

In his latest piece, Kypreos suggests that this week he's heard rumblings that Byfield could be available, with the Kings looking to land a star level forward to keep pace with the top teams in the Western Conference, and given the talent of the 22-year old, moving him could land them a superstar.

Quinton Byfield is a name to watch here for a few reasons. The first is that, if Los Angeles is to make a big move to counter Vegas and Edmonton, they'll have to give up a significant young piece to a seller. Byfield is exactly that, a 22-year-old and the second overall pick from the 2020 draft.

That has left the Los Angeles organization wondering how high Byfield's ceiling truly is and if the team would be better off focusing on the here and now by flipping Byfield for a more seasoned roster upgrade.

This of course came as a shock to the NHL world, with NHL personality Pete Blackburn summing up the sentiment in one post on X.

Ultimately, it could be a major mistake for the Kings to trade Byfield, who could blossom into one of the best young players in the NHL, but depending on what the return could be, it could also give them the opportunity to make a surprise run in the Western Conference this season.
