Over the past week, it's appeared to be just a matter of time until the Vancouver Canucks trade J.T. Miller, as a deal with the New York Rangers came so close to getting over the line.
However, that never came to fruition, and now it appears as though the team is getting frustrated with Miller discussions, as it appears that other teams know they are desperate and continue to lowball GM Patrik Allvin.
According to analyst Cam Robinson, this has caused a major change in the organization, as he has reported that he's hearing rumblings about the team pivoting to an Elias Pettersson trade, rather than Miller.
On the surface, this would be an obvious move as Pettersson would net them a much bigger return in a deal, but at 26 years of age, his future in the NHL alongside fellow star Quinn Hughes makes him a much more attractive piece to build around for the Canucks.
On top of that, Miller is the one piece that has taken the most criticism from Canucks fans and media, and given his body language throughout this whole situation, he still makes sense as the best piece to move out of the locker room.
Ultimately, one of the two is on the way out, and if Vancouver wants a bigger deal, expect it to be Pettersson, but if they want to improve their locker room and the chemistry, expect it to be Miller.
