The Stanley Cup Playoffs are winding down with just three teams remaining battling for the world's greatest trophy. During the playoffs there has been alot of high praise on the performances by Edmonton Oilers Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid.

Despite being eliminated by the Avalanche those two showed why they are possibly the top two players in the world. However former NHL'er turned sports Journalist Maxim Lapierre believes there is a new best player in the world and it's not Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl or Auston Matthews.

During his recent podcast with Guillaume Latendresse on "Les amateurs de sports" on 98.5 Sports, Maxim Lapierre shared that he truly felt that Colorado Avalanche defenceman Cale Makar is the best player in the world.

"I may surprise you, but I think he's the best player in the National Hockey League. I understand that we have Connor McDavid on offense. Spectacular, he skates and all that. but Makar is able to play both ways of the ice and I think he's not even at his best yet. He's 23 years old. He's physical, he skates, he's creative, he's strong, he's able to fall back. You saw it when he played one-on-one against McDavid. It looked easy."

In 14 playoff games, Makar has five goals and 17 assists for 22 points and has a good shot at winning the Conn Smythe Trophy.

Do you agree with his choice of Cale Makar?
