Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Wyatt Kaiser given controversial penalty against the Boston Bruins

Tonight the hockey world is locked in debate over a controversial and unusual penalty that was handed down to Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Wyatt Kaiser.

During tonight's matchup between the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins controversy has erupted over a penalty given to Wyatt Kaiser for intentionally dislodging the net.

Late in the first period, Bruins superstar Brad Marchand took a shot on net which was saved by Blackhawks goaltender Petr Mrazek.

After making the save the puck was rebounded into the crease and a scrum ensued between the two teams as the Blackhawks scrambled to prevent a goal.

In the chaos, Blackhawks defenseman Wyatt Kaiser made contact with the net and knocked it off its pegs resulting in the end of the play.

Moments later Wyatt Kaiser was handed a penalty for intentionally knocking the net off to prevent a goal from being scored.

While the referees seemed to think that Wyatt Kaiser knocked the net off with purposeful and malicious intent Chicago Blackhawks fans strongly disagree.

Blackhawks fans call out referees for the strange penalty against Wyatt Kaiser

Immediately after the call was made by the referees debate began on social media regarding the penalty that was called.

Many fans who were watching the game remain confused about how a penalty can be called and believe Wyatt Kaiser made incidental contact with the post.

While fans were not happy with the call it stood and the Blackhawks were tasked with killing off a Boston Bruins power play to end the first period.

The Blackhawks would kill off the penalty but now find themselves trailing 3-2 after the second period looking to make a comeback and take down the Boston Bruins.
