Hockey Night in Canada is one of the cherished nights for hockey fans, as Canadian teams usually take the prime time slot on a Saturday night. With that comes the coverage from Sportsnet's panel, headed by Ron MacLean. Ron MacLean has been the face of Hockey Night in Canada since his days on Coaches Corner, and even despite rumours of his dismissal earlier this year, he remains in his position. However, he seems to be losing touch with Canadians as he ages.
This was especially seen last night as he interviewed Bobby McMann of the Toronto Maple Leafs, after sending the Oilers home with a frustrating defeat. At the end of the interview, MacLean makes things awkward by going off on a tangent about someone who owns a dress shop who was related to a member of the hockey community. Take a look.
With hockey coverage becoming more and more innovative and fresh, it seems like Sportsnet's production of Hockey Night in Canada is falling behind significantly. It used to be the case that Canadian coverage of hockey was the best of the best, however, with TNT investing in an incredible panel of stars, they have seemingly taken over as the best broadcast.
Many fans are hopeful that TSN will earn the right to broadcast Saturday night NHL games again, as the few panels they have done this season have been a smashing success.
