The Boston Bruins announced a big list of training camp cuts today, disappointing many fans with the demotion of top prospect Fabian Lysell.

The Bruins announced the move this morning, reassigning 17 players to Providence of the American Hockey League. In addition, goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo, who signed a professional tryout with the team this summer, was released from the deal and subsequently assigned to Providence as well. Winger Marc McLaughlin was also put on waivers for the purpose of reassigning him to the AHL squad.

"BOSTON - Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, September 29, the following roster transactions:

Marc McLaughlin has been placed on waivers for the purpose of assignment to Providence.

Joey Abate, Drew Bavaro, Ryan Bischel, Frederic Brunet, Michael Callahan, Riley Duran, Jackson Edward, John Farinacci, Brett Harrison, Trevor Kuntar, Fabian Lysell, Nolan Maier, Ryan Mast, Adam Mechura, Georgii Merkulov, Mason Millman and Jaxon Nelson will report to Providence Bruins training camp.

Kasimir Kaskisuo has been released from his PTO and will report to Providence Bruins training camp."

Most of these moves were expected. Some fans will be keeping an eye on Kaskisuo though as Jeremy Swayman still remains unsigned, leading to tension and anxiety among fans of the team. Without Swayman, the Bruins have a big problem in goal. That being said, the most puzzling move to come from this would have to be the fact that Fabian Lysell was demoted. The 21-year-old just had two very strong pre-season games showing that he deserves a spot on the roster. Clearly though, the team disagrees. As such, the team is starting to drive a wedge between themselves and fans who think Lysell deserves a shot.

Lysell was a first-round pick of the Bruins, having been drafted 21st overall in 2021. Last season he dominated the AHL, putting up 50 points in 56 games. We have to assume that he will get a chance to crack the lineup at some point this season, but the question remains as to whether or not he will get a full-time position this season.
