Jake DeBrusk may have departed Boston this off-season, but in one final interview, he reveals which Bruins teammate truly intimidated him.
Jake DeBrusk had a solid tenure with the Boston Bruins, and during his time in Bean Town, he played alongside some icons of this past generation, but none more iconic than the legendary Zdeno Chara. The 6-foot-9 veteran is one of the most beloved players in NHL history, but according to DeBrusk, he was the one player that he played alongside that truly intimidated him.
«Super calm demeanor. Like such a nice guy and I love Z, but at the beginning, you're intimidated. You are straight up intimidated seeing Z for the first time,» DeBrusk recalled when he appeared on «The Cam & Strick Podcast» on Tuesday. «I remember the first time I saw him on the ice; it was even more intimidating. We had a one-on-one drill, and I was like, Oh my God, I don't even know how to attack this guy right now.' It's like I never seen anything like (him) at the time, but you get used to it as time goes on.»
Given his 6-foot-9 frame and intimidating play style, it's safe to say that DeBrusk only felt what countless players on the opposing side of the ice did throughout Chara's 25-year career felt, but from what we know about Chara off the ice, he couldn't be more different as what he was on the ice. DeBrusk would admit that as he got the chance to play alongside him more and more, that intimidation certainly wore off, but it's safe to say that his size served his purpose.
Now, DeBrusk is off to Vancouver, and while there's no one quite like Chara on this team, they're expected to be a very good team in 2024 as DeBrusk looks to chase the first Stanley Cup of his career.
