Jim Montgomery calls out Sam Bennett for dirty play on Marchand
In a press conference, Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery called out Florida Panthers' Sam Bennett for his dirty play that injured Brad Marchand in game 3.
Yesterday, in his press conference, Montgomery made controversial comments when he said that Bennett intentionally tried to injure Marchand:
"People can say it wasn't intentional, but we have our view of it."
In his latest interview, the coach wanted to clarify his comments. He said:
"I don't think I classified it as dirty; I just think it was outside the lines. I think it was someone that plays the game on the edge, and he knew what he was doing."
"I don't know if you've seen the picture from behind, but he clearly loaded up."
Here's the angle the coach is referring to:
We can clearly see that he braces for the hit and sucker punches Marchand, possibly causing his injury.
In the same interview, he took the blame for his team's lack of response after Bennett's hit:
"I feel that it's my fault that we didn't retaliate to some degree."
Marchand is a terrible loss for the Bruins. He's the biggest leader in the locker room, and what he brings on the ice can't be replaced.
When he was asked if Bennett's dirty move on Marchand would motivate his players, he said that they're already fired up for the fourth game and want to win for the captain:
"It can be, it has been, and it should be tonight."
Tonight's game promises to be an intense battle between the Panthers and the Bruins. Montgomery's team will look to tie the series at 2, in front of their fans, before going back to Florida for game 5.
Stay tuned.
