This season has been one of inconsistencies for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and with star captain Auston Matthews still on the sidelines, it's easy to understand that their depth down the middle has been tested.
With Max Domi struggling on the top line (no points in his last 12 games), the team needs a serious injection of life on their third line, with Tavares the only center that has been consistently productive throughout the year.
There's been plenty of speculation about a minor trade to improve their bottom six, and after the Penguins moved Lars Eller recently, it could force other teams to quickly make a decision.
Now, Sportsnet's Luke Fox has identified some possible targets for Toronto, with the biggest one of all being Brock Nelson of the New York Islanders.
On top of that, he names Mikael Granlund, Nick Bjugstad, Jake Evans, and Frank Vatrano, with Nelson easily identified as the best of the bunch.
In 19 games this year for a struggling offensive team, Nelson has put up 7 goals and 10 points, and after tallying 30+ goals in each of the last three seasons, his production simply speaks for itself.
Given that he's a pending free agent, Nelson could be the perfect target for Toronto, and if it allows them to take some pressure off Max Domi and find production from everyone in their top nine, it will be a game-changer for this team.
