The Washington Capitals are in a weird position as it stands and may be losing core defenseman Martin Fehervary for the start of the season after off-season injuries.

Currently, the Washington Capitals are a bubble playoff team and could make the playoffs as a wild-card team or miss it as one of the last teams out. This means that from game one to game 82, the Capitals will need to fight for every win that they can get. However, this may be a bit difficult at the start of the year as one of their better defensemen, Martin Fehervary, is missing the Olympic qualifiers with an injury.

"I would like to play (in the qualifier). I'm still a little bit dealing with some health issues, but we'll see how the thing's going. So far it looks good. Nothing major. I'm practicing, but it's before the season and we talked with the Caps and if I'm not going to be 100 percent, I shouldn't go. So we'll see." - Martin Fehervary

If Fehervary were to miss the Olympic qualifiers, it would mean that the start of his 2024-25 season could be in jeopardy and could result in them relying on other players to fill his void.

As it stands, the Capitals will have a very new look heading into 2024-25 with new faces like Pierre-Luc Dubois, Jakub Chychrun, and Andrew Mangiapane all being able to become solid pieces. We will now see how the season progresses and if the Capitals can stay healthy enough to hopefully make the playoffs and then go on a miracle run before Alex Ovechkin retires.
