When Nazem Kadri made his playoff comeback last night, many believed he would play limited minutes and be more of a decoy than anything, but that definitely was not the case.

Kadri scored the overtime game winning goal to give the Avalanche a 3-1 series lead over the defending champs and people went crazy! Unfortunately though, the goal came with a bit of controversy.

On the play the Colorado Avalanche had too many men on the ice which went uncalled and the goal was allowed to stand, which have driven some fans into a frenzy, not to mention Lightning coach Jon Cooper.

Mackinnon was no where near the bench when the player joined the play on the ice.

This was the statement made by the NHL Operations:

A too many men on the ice penalty is a judgement call that can be made by any of the four on-ice officials.

Following the game, Hockey Operations met with the four officials as is their normal protocol. In discussing the winning goal, each of the four officials advised that they did not see a too many men on the ice situation on the play.

This call is not subject to video review either by Hockey Ops or the on-ice officials.

So if the NHL doesn't deny that this was a definite penalty and missed call, should they have done something about it? They simply state that no official saw it, and the Lightning are not allowed to challenge in OT.
