The Edmonton Oilers and Philadelphia Flyers have surprised us tonight with a trade.

The two teams have elected to trade depth defenseman as each club will receive a new blueliner. The Oilers have received 25-year-old right-shot defenseman Ronnie Attard in exchange for 26-year-old left shot defenseman Ben Gleason.

Both players have a handful of NHL games for experience, but have largely been career AHLers. Gleason got into four games with the Dallas Stars several years ago and luckily managed to earn his first career point with an assist. He has not played in the league since. Attard on the other hand has been called up a few times, appearing in 29 career NHL games so far, and recording 2 goals and6 points. He got into 12 games with the Flyers last season.

Most likely, this trade was simply to get both players in better positions for themselves. It most likely will not have a big impact on either NHL team as neither player figured to even make any appearances this season. So far, both have been in the AHL all year. You never know though, something could change, especially after a trade so keep an eye on both players as they could make their season debuts with their new clubs soon.
