Just now, it was announced that the Edmonton Oilers have traded Cody Ceci to the San Jose Sharks.
Ceci played in 79 games for the Oilers last year scoring five goals and 25 points along the way. He was one of the Oilers' more pricey defensemen and was rumored the be on his way out amidst the Dylan Holloway and Phillip Broberg offer sheets.
This move now gives the Oilers some cap space to match either the Dylan Holloway or the Phillip Broberg offer sheet.
While this does not give the Oilers enough space to sign both of the players, they probably should be able to retain at least one of them which is massive as losing both Broberg, a recent 8th overall pick, and Holloway, a recent 14th overall pick, would sting.
Ceci has previously played with the Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Pittsburgh Penguins amassing 786 career games and an additional 88 playoff games. At 30 years old, Ceci has plenty of hockey left ahead of himself and will hopefully one day reach the 1000-game milestone.
