Trade officially finalized between the Blackhawks and Lightning
With each round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs coming to an end teams are eliminated from the postseason. With that elimination trades with certain conditions can be finalized. Today that was the case as a trade between the Chicago Blackhawks and Tampa Bay Lightning was finalized.
With the elimination of the Tampa Bay Lightning by the Florida Panthers from the Stanley Cup Playoffs a trade is now finally completed. The Chicago Blackhawks got two first round selections from the Tampa Bay Lightning for Brandon Hegel.
The Brandon Hagel trade sure looks like a good one for both teams. The Blackhawks were able to draft Oliver Moore and will have a second first-rounder this year because of it. The Lightning got one hell of a player. With the Tampa Bay Lightning eliminated from the playoffs, the Chicago Blackhawks will officially receive that second first-round selection and pick at 20th overall.
After Vegas losing, the Blackhawks will draft at No. 20 with the Lightning's first-round pick.
RIP to the Knights and Islanders. The Blackhawks will officially pick 20th.
The completion of this trade allows the Chicago Blackhawks to further rebuild and add yet another pair of top prospects to their arsenal. For the Tampa Bay Lightning things didn't work out quite the way they had hoped but they still have an incredible player in Brandon Hegel.
These types of trades take longer to fully develop but often can be the most impactful for both teams involved. It will be fun to see if that is the case with this particular trade.
