The Boston Bruins are embroiled in a heated negotiation with Jeremy Swayman, and now, they've claimed a goaltender on waivers.

With all the drama surrounding the Boston Bruins, the microscope will be out for fans with any small move the team make, and now, they've sent fans into a panic by claiming a young goaltender on waivers.

According to top NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, just one player placed on waivers yesterday was claimed, and it was Jiri Patera, a 25-year old goaltender that joined the Vancouver Canucks this summer.

After making his NHL debut with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2022/23, Patera added another two games a season ago, with the former sixth-round draft pick tallying a .902 save percentage and a 3.57 GAA over that time. In 25 games with the Henderson Silver Knights a season ago, Patera tallied a solid 2.99 GAA and a .903 save percentage, and while the Bruins have some solid goaltending depth, he'll serve as yet another solid player in case the worst happens.

With the regular season just a week away for the Boston Bruins, they look likely to begin the year without Jeremy Swayman on the roster, and while it's Joonas Korpisalo and Brandon Bussi expected to start the year in net, picking up Patera is a good, cheap depth option for a team that may be without their No. 1 for a significant stretch. It's unclear whether he'll head straight to the AHL or compete with Bussi for the backup spot to start the season, but regardless, this will be a story to keep an eye on for Bruins fans.
