After an incredible start to his career in Tampa Bay following a decade of success, Tyler Johnson has failed to catch on anywhere since leaving the team ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
While he had a solid run in Chicago, there was limited interest in Johnson over the summer, with the Boston Bruins giving him a PTO and ultimately a full contract that allowed him to play with the team in 2024/25.
In nine games, Johnson has put together just two assists and a -1 differential, and on Thursday the Bruins made it official as they waived Johnson for the purposes of contract termination.
At this point in time, it's unclear if something happened behind the scenes for Boston to make this sudden change, but with the team getting younger and seeing solid play on the wings as of late, it just wasn't necessary to hold onto the 34-year-old.
Johnson has been in the NHL since 2012, with the highlight of his career being the back-to-back Stanley Cups in Tampa Bay, but with little interest shown in him over the summer, his future in hockey is certainly murky at best.
He may ultimately need to follow the footsteps of several veterans who have moved overseas to reignite their careers this summer, but for now, it's the end of his time with the Boston Bruins.
On top of this news, all four players placed on waivers on Wednesday have officially passed through, with the NHL's holiday roster freeze fast approaching, likely putting an end to what has been a wild week in player movement all around the NHL.
