Brad Marchand was infuriated today after former Bruin AJ Greer made a hit on David Pastrnak, leading to drama both on and off the ice.

The first play that got under Marchand's skin happened when Greer made a hit on David Pastrnak. The hit looked worse than it actually was due to the fact that Jesper Boqvist was also closing in at the same time, but at the end of the day, Pasta's back was to the backchecking Panther the entire time. Furthermore, the play was along the boards, so this probably should have been a minor penalty. However, nothing was called, increasing frustrations for the Bruins, specifically their captain.

After the game, Marchand explained his frustration. He saw it as a hit from behind on the most important skater for the team. As a veteran, he knows to expect plays like this, but he is still going to try and stand up for his teammate.

"Greersy got him from behind. You usually target the other team's best players, so every time he has the puck they're going after him."

Making matters worse is the fact that Pastrnak was later called for interference as the Bruins were working in the Panthers zone. Granted, this call seemed rather obvious, but of course, Marchand and the Bruins are going to be upset when they get called for their own penalties while the Panthers got away with one. That being said, Marchand's response was a bit extreme in this case, earning him a double minor and his second trip to the penalty box of the game.

Another factor that can be contributing to Marchand's frustration this season is the fact that he has failed to find the back of the net so far. In fact, no one on his line has managed a goal yet and the trio of Marchand, Coyle, and Geekie has been thoroughly outmatched so far. Marchand has just two points on the season, one on the powerplay and one at 4 on 4.

Through four games the Bruins are now 2-2, but they have looked outmatched in both games against the Panthers so far which is a bad sign for the team considering they could very well meet in the playoffs again. After all, the Panthers have eliminated the Bruins in each of the last two seasons. Will this finally be the year the Bruins beat the Panthers? Based on their early season results, that would not seem to be the case.

Do you think AJ Greer's hit on David Pastrnak warranted this kind of response from Brad Marchand?
