The Chicago Blackhawks need to build a solid, young core around Connor Bedard, and now we know when Sascha Boisvert will be arriving with the team.
With Connor Bedard leading the way, the future of the Chicago Blackhawks is seemingly very bright, and while there's a lack of elite level talent around him right now, the belief in Chicago is that this is a young core that's being built the correct way.
While Artyom Levshunov dominated headlines for this team at the 2024 NHL Draft, the Blackhawks may have found another young piece of the future at pick No. 18 when they landed centre Sacha Boisvert, a Quebec native playing at the University of North Dakota. Boisvert has been dubbed the 'next Jonathan Toews' by many in Chicago, with NHL.com very high on the pick and the value the team got at the position.
NHL.com analysis: The Blackhawks could use some size through the middle of the ice after taking centers on the smaller size the past two years at the draft in Connor Bedard (5-10, 185), Oliver Moore (5-11, 188) and Frank Nazar (5-9, 175). In addition to a bigger frame, Boisvert has greatly improved his skating, which allowed him to become more of a 200-foot player. If he stays in the middle or slides to the wing, he profiles as a power forward who is able to create extra room for one of those dynamic centers while also being able to finish chances at the net. Now, it is known when he will arrive in Chicago, with Boisvert expected to attend training camp next off-season, with many believing that he could make a major push for the Blackhawks roster as the team continue their lengthy rebuild.
In one game for North Dakota thus far this season, Boisvert has notched a goal and an assist, and given his impressive size (6-foot-2), it's easy to see why the team are high on him and why they would love to have him make the roster next season.
