Hockey has always had a major issue with how expensive it is at a younger age, and now NHL goaltender Eric Comrie has called out the situation.

While the Four Nations Face Off was a major win for the NHL and hockey in general in North America, there's still plenty of issues with the sport that hold it back from being much, much more popular.

The biggest of all of those has been recognized by fans and people at the grass roots level for quite some time, and that is just how expensive it is, with many families unable to afford the game and leaving it to more well of people to have their kids playing only.

That issue has now been called out by current Winnipeg Jets goaltender Eric Comrie, who made a significant statement about the cost of hockey to play, especially in North America.

It's ridiculous how expensive it is and it kind of grosses me out thinking about how hard it is for kids to play this game.

For those growing up in Canada, hockey was once the easiest sport to play during the winter months with the game being accessible to everyone, but especially given how players need to upgrade their equipment as they continue to grow up, it makes it impossible for some families to get their kids on the ice.

It's unclear if this will ever change, as players will continue to accept the cost to play in their favourite sport, and with the player base in Canada especially from well off families continuing to be strong, it's safe to say that there's no motivation for this to change, even if players like Comrie continue to condemn the way things have been done.
