Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Mitch Marner threw some subtle shade at his teammates after winning the Four Nations faceoff with Team Canada.

Mitch Marner and the rest of Team Canada were celebrating Friday after they defeated the United States in the Four Nations tournament.

It was a tightly fought game, with player from both teams treating it like a Stanley Cup final game seven.

As a result, it felt like a major accomplishment for all the players on the Canadian team when Connor McDavid potted the overtime game-winner.

After the game, Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Mitch Marner revealed what the experience was like for him, saying it was special to celebrate a big win like that.

"It was really special. It's been a long time since we've been able to celebrate something really special, and hockey-wise, winning. It felt really cool just to have them around me with how much sacrifice and effort they put in throughout my whole life to get me to the point where I am today.

It was really cool just to have them beside me and see the smiles and feel the emotion that they were feeling for me and the excitement. It was a really cool thing to celebrate with them after that."

Notably, the Maple Leafs have not had much success in the playoffs since Marner joined the team, winning just one round.

This seems to be what he was referencing when he said that it had 'been a long time' since he was able to celebrate like that.

Marner personally came up huge for Team Canada throughout the tournament, scoring a clutch goal and adding two incredibly important assists in the final game.

He scored the game-winning goal in the round robin match against Sweden and added primary assists to both the game tying and game winning goals in the championship game against Team USA.

Hopefully Marner will be able to repeat this kind of performance this spring when the Leafs will once again be attempting to prove that they have what it takes to be a contender.
