was the hero in the Four Nations for Team Canada, and now it appears he's ready to do the same for Edmonton as he returns on Saturday.
The Edmonton Oilers watched their captain play hero at the Four Nations, and while that would have brought immense joy for those fans in Canada, the relief that he got through the tournament unscathed would be equal to that.
After the tournament, their quest for a Stanley Cup continues on Saturday with a matchup against fellow Canadians Travis Konecny and Travis Sanheim of the Philadelphia Flyers, with question marks over McDavid's status for this one.
Now, Head Coach Kris Knoblauch has confirmed that McDavid will be active for the game, and while Connor is at full health, Knoblauch questioned whether or not he could have kept No. 97 out of the lineup anyway.
"Sometimes you worry about the player not having a break, all these other players had a break. But with Connor, I don't think I could force him, I don't think I could keep him away from the rink."
In four Four Nations games, McDavid had three goals including the winner against the United States, and with five points, he continued what has been another fantastic season for him thus far.
On top of McDavid's return, Knoblauch has confirmed an Oilers debut for Matthew Savoie, who will appear in his second game at the NHL level after debuting for the Buffalo Sabres back in 2023.
Ultimately, this is a major boost for Edmonton, who find themselves atop the Pacific Division with the season now heating up, and if McDavid can stay healthy moving forward, there's optimism that this team can go one step further than they did a season ago.
