Hampus Lindholm has been a key cog on the Boston Bruins blue line for a few years now, topping his career high in points with an impressive 53 during the 2022/23 campaign. However, he left the ice during the team's Tuesday night victory over the St. Louis Blues after blocking a brutal shot from Justin Faulk.
The video footage revealed that Lindholm took a puck to the knee on the shot, and after leaving the game for good, there were fears over his status for the future after the game.
Unfortunately, those fears were confirmed on Wednesday by Head Coach Jim Montgomery, who revealed that he will be missing weeks of action due to a lower-body injury.
Despite sitting at 8-7-2 through their first 17 games, many fans are disappointed with the start the Bruins have had this season, as they have arguably been the NHL's best regular season team over the past three years. That frustration has been felt throughout the organization, with Jim Montgomery's seat reportedly getting hotter the further their struggles continue,
Even after adding two offensive weapons over the summer, the team still ranks 25th in the NHL in goals scored per game this season, and it's now led them to a potential blockbuster trade to fill a hole in their top-six.
For now, though, the team will need to focus on replacing Lindholm in the short term, as he has played well on their second-pairing as well as their top powerplay line this season, but if they can stay afloat without him, confidence remains high that this team can certainly turn things around.
