With John Gibson returning from his injury last weekend after missing the start of the season, the Anaheim Ducks were poised to make a roster move involving a goaltender. With Gibson, James Reimer, and Lukas Dostal, there were too many people in the goalie unit, prompting general manager Pat Verbeek to take action.
Yesterday, the organization decided to place Reimer on waivers:
Today, the insider Elliotte Friedman shared an update on Reimer, confirming that he was claimed by the Buffalo Sabres.
Here's what he posted on X:
Reimer, 36, took part in two games this season with the Ducks and lost both of them, with a 4.50 GAA and a .864 SV% record.
He was acquired by the Ducks right before the start of the season. They claimed him on waivers from the Red Wigs when Gibson's injury was announced at the end of the training camp.
In his career, he played 503 games in the NHL for the Toronto Maple Leafs, San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, and the Ducks. The Maple Leafs' 99th overall pick in 2006 tallies a 2.89 GAA and a .910 SV%, and will hope to get these numbers higher this season with the Sabres.
Reimer's new team is set to face the St. Louis Blues tomorrow, and fans are eager to see what will decide head coach Lindy Ruff for the starting goalie, especially considering their young goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen will be eligible to play after an injury scare on Monday against the Montreal Canadiens.
