Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman set to receive offer sheet from rival team
A lack of communication and commitment between Jeremy Swayman and the Boston Bruins has left the door wide open for a rival team to present an offer sheet.
Swayman recently refused to go to arbitration, which led many to question his commitment to the Bruins. Swayman and the Bruins seem to be far apart on striking a deal, which may now leave room for a team to offer sheet him in an attempt to pluck him out of the Bruins' organization.
Jeremy Swayman did not file for arbitration with the Bruins.
Word around the league is the rival Montreal Canadiens may have an interest in submitting an offer sheet for Swayman, but it will cost them a hefty price if the Bruins do not match it. Ty Anderson of 98.5 The Sports Hub has stated that should the Habs offer sheet Swayman, they will need to put up a minimum offer of $9.1 million, and should the Bruins choose not to match, they will have to offload a ton of draft picks as compensation to the Bruins. It is important to note that the Habs do have a ton of draft picks available at their disposal.
The good news is that neither Swayman nor the Bruins filed for arbitration. The bad news the Bruins could fall prey to an offer sheet, with their oldest rival primed to make that move if they choose to do so.
The Bruins-Habs rivalry is already the oldest and most ferocious in the league, and you best believe that should the Habs steal Swayman away from the Bruins, it's going to heat up to a level never before seen in NHL history.
