Elliotte Friedman reveals Sabres forward Alex Tuch is drawing trade interest from Eastern Conference rivals
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed one team that is particularly interested in trading for Sabres forward Alex Tuch.
The Buffalo Sabres have slowly put together a solid core of young players but nothing seems to be working for them as once again they sit at the bottom of the Atlantic Division.
One of the team's core players came when they traded Jack Eichel to the Vegas Golden Knights, getting Alex Tuch in return.
Tuch has been excellent for the Sabres since that deal, recording 88 goals and 216 points in 252 games.
However, he will be turning 29 later this year and the Sabres still appear to be nowhere near the playoffs, so that leaves the team in an uncomfortable situation with him.
He has just one year left on his contract and will be due a big raise at the end of next season, so that begs the question of whether or not it makes sense to trade him.
According to Elliotte Friedman's latest report one team in particular has expressed interest in the veteran winger, but it is not clear whether or not the Sabres intend to trade him just yet.
"I heard Tampa is really looking for a forward. I don't know what Buffalo is going to do here (with Alex Tuch) but I do think Tampa has asked about him. They are not going to sit pat. I have a lot of people telling me the Lightning are active and they want to strike."
The Sabres will almost certainly be sellers come next month's trade deadline, but since Tuch is still under team control for one more season there is no pressure to move him now.
That being said, they could potentially get a greater return if they move him this year and that could help accelerate the team's rebuild.
Then again, Sabres fans are surely tired of the same thing every year and Tuch has become a fan-favorite so this really is a tricky situation for the team.
