Tampa Bay Lightning Prospect Handed 10 Game Suspension

In recent years, the NHL and hockey officials have severely cracked down on behaviour on the ice, and now we're seeing a Tampa Bay Lightning prospect face the consequences of his actions.

In a recent game for the AHL's Syracuse Crunch, the affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning, prospect Maxim Groshev was accused of using «insensitive language directed at an opponent", and as a result, he now been given a massive 10-game suspension as a result.

As a result of the criticisms of hockey culture both on and off the ice, the leagues in North America have tried to take steps forward to end behaviour like this, and with a 10-game suspension, it's safe to say that Groshev should hopefully get the point moving forward.

No details were given on exactly what happened, but with the AHL looking to stamp out any of this type of behaviour, it appears from all angles that this suspension was justified.

The 23-year old was a third-round pick of the Lightning back in 2020, and in his second season with the Crunch, he has just 5 goals and 11 points in 46 games played, showing that while development is needed on the ice, he's still a prospect to watch in Tampa Bay.

Ultimately though, this is the type of incident that could severely hurt his development for Tampa Bay, as this character concern is something that could carry over once he returns from the suspension.
