Joseph Woll is in his return from injury on a conditioning stint with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL, and his first game got a little physical, making fans worried for his health.

Woll Took Physical Plays During Return From Injury with Marlies

Joseph Woll is one of the Leafs' most promising young players, in that he has shown he has what it takes to play at the NHL level between the pipes. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury earlier this year that has kept him from play, at least until last night.

Woll was assigned to the Marlies on a conditioning stint in order to return from injury, and last night appeared in his first game back. However, it was more physical than many hoped, as Laval players crashed hard to the net multiple times.

Joseph Woll is having a night, but the good thing is, he's hanging in there.

Marlies players, understanding Woll's importance to the franchise, were quick to stick up for the young player working his way back from injury.

Woll Impresses Despite Physical Play in First Game

Despite all of this physical play, Woll was impressive in his first game back. He made 36 saves in the 4-1 victory and was active all night as the Marlies faced several penalties.

Now, the Leafs will face the difficult decision of who they will keep with the Marlies moving forward. Martin Jones has impressed in his opportunity with the Leafs, and will likely be picked up on waivers if he is sent down. Brad Treliving will face some difficult decisions in the coming week.
