Elliotte Friedman revealed some surprising information on his 32 Thoughts show, which was that the Leafs are strongly considering trading their top prospects.

With the March 7 NHL trade deadline approaching, the Toronto Maple Leafs stand at a crossroads. While teams beg to bolster their lineup by adding some added quality talent on their rosters, the Leafs have become the focal point of trade rumors.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman broke some news in his latest '32 Thoughts' column that multiple teams have made inquiries about acquiring Easton Cowan, Ben Danford, and Fraser Minten, plus Toronto's 2026 first-round draft choice.

"There are four people/assets potential trade partners ask from Toronto: Easton Cowan, Ben Danford, Fraser Minten and their 2026 first-rounder. If they want to do anything significant, they'll have to decide which of those they'd part," Friedman wrote.

The Leafs will likely have to trade a top prospect if they want a quality rental

Friedman stated if the Leafs are going to do something significant to add to their roster, they must determine which of these blue-chip players they are willing to give up.

Toronto possesses a deep pool of top-end prospects creating serious buzz, headed by Cowan and Minten, whose ceilings are on par with a 2025 first-rounder.

Both players would be a huge trade to make, as each has the potential to become an NHL full-timer as early as next season. What the Leafs do with these trade discussions will be fascinating to watch.

With March 7th only days away now, speculation and suspense will be on full display as general managers around the league try one last time to tinker with their rosters in order to give them the best shot at a Stanley Cup.
