Insider provides an update on John Klingberg's recovery from major injury
Today NHL insider David Pagnotta took to X to give a major update on free agent and former Toronto Maple Leaf John Klingberg and his recovery from a major injury.
The Toronto Maple Leafs signed defenseman John Klingberg last offseason hoping he would give them an offensive punch on the back end. After a couple of months of struggling play, it was revealed that John Klingberg would have season-ending hip surgery.
Brad Treliving tells reporters that John Klingberg will undergo season-ending hip surgery.
Klingberg's $4.15 million salary will remain on LTIR, freeing money to go hunting for D-men in the trade market.
Since being placed on Long-Term Injured Reserve by the Toronto Maple Leafs there had not been much of an update on John Klingberg. He remains a free agent and is one of the better players available along with other players coming off of injury like Max Pacioretty.
Bargain shopping.

However, today an update on the health of John Klingberg finally came from an insider but his future still remains uncertain.

In a new post on X NHL insider David Pagnotta spoke about the John Klingberg injury situation. According to his sources, David Pagnotta says John Klingberg is still in recovery and will wait until he is healthy to decide the future of his NHL career.
John Klingberg is still recovering and is waiting until he's fully healthy before exploring his playing options for next season - nothing imminent here.
While this provides hope to fans of John Klingberg that a return to the NHL is not off of the table it still seems far away. As the season begins it will be interesting to see if this becomes a Patrick Kane situation where John Klingberg does not sign until December or January.
