Following last night's dominating Leafs win over the Jets, a few players decided to poke fun at Mark Scheifele and the Jets team as payback.

It was the Leafs that gave the Jets their first loss of the season last night and ended their undefeated streak. Now, an outsider might raise an eyebrow or two, but closer observation brings us to the concept that indeed the Leafs have a hold on their Canadian rivals.

But despite a great start to this season, the Leafs have been a stubborn opponent for the Jets. The Leafs have been essentially Winnipeg's kryptonite since 2021, compiling a perfect 6-0 record against the Jets. It has been a sore spot with Jets fans, considering how well the team has performed against just about everyone else.

It was a one-sided rivalry whose turning point goes back to 2021, with Jets forward Mark Scheifele making the bold comment about how the team was going to fare. Little time had passed when the Leafs went ahead on their winning streak against the Jets, proving themselves time and again on the ice. It was at that moment, it seems, that the Leafs marked the beginning of their hold over the Jets.

The victory last night did not stop at adding another notch to Toronto's win column. The Leafs took the time to hit back at Scheifele and used his very words for inspiration in doing so. They echoed his past comments in post-game digs as proof of their swagger and that they have not forgotten the rivalry's roots.

Could this be the beginning of a hot Canadian rivalry? With the rapidly growing history and enough tension between the two teams, this is definitely something to be watched closely in the coming weeks and months by both sides' fans.
