Monday night's game for the Edmonton Oilers simply couldn't have gone worse, as captain Connor McDavid went down early in the game with an injury, leaving immediately not to return to the game. While McDavid was sent home to Edmonton, early updates on the Oilers captain reveal it's nothing too serious, which is great news for the team as they look to turn around their early season struggles.
However, after McDavid left the game, the team would be annihilated by Sean Monahan and the Blue Jackets, as they would run away 6-1 victors on home ice. After the game, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who is one of Connor McDavid's regular linemates called out his team for their lack of response after their captain went down.
RNH didn't forget to include himself, however, as he told reporters that the entire team needed to step up and play better, but without the playmaking of No. 97, this team simply struggled to string together offensive possession. Beyond that, Stuart Skinner struggled mightily as well, giving the Oilers plenty to think about as they look to turn the tides of their season.
We will continue to wait for further updates on McDavid's status, as it currently appears positive and it's likely not a long-term injury, given the way the team played without him, the Oilers' entire season seemingly hinges on McDavid's health.
