Nick Robertson has impressed thus far in the 2024 NHL pre-season, and it appears that the coaching staff under Craig Berube are thoroughly impressed too.
After last season, all signs pointed to Maple Leafs Nick Robertson wanting out this off-season, and while that belief was maintained through the summer, it appears he has a new lease on life under Craig Berube. With his new Head Coach, Robertson has taken his game to another level, and in every pre-season game thus far, he's managed to stand out even among the toughest competition.
Now, when asked about Robertson, Berube was very complimentary, and appears excited for his future as a Maple Leaf, despite the reported trade request months ago.
"Robertson," admitted Berube. "I knew he was skilled, fast, could shoot. But what surprised me about him is his work ethic and his competitiveness have been excellent. That's what is going to make him a real good player in this league."
In pre-season thus far, Robertson has tallied a goal per game in impressive circumstances, and after struggling to find a roster spot early in the off-season, he's now almost guaranteed a spot in the Maple Leafs middle-six. So how does Robertson feel about his new spot on the team after impressing?
"It means a lot," said Robertson of being in the opening lineup. "I was actually talking to my parents about it. They're going to come up for it. It's something that I now was thinking about coming to camp and I'm glad."
At this stage, it appears Robertson has used hard work and production to turn his place around in the organization, and with the regular season almost upon us, things are looking good for a career year from the 22-year old.
