The Toronto Maple Leafs are fighting hard in the Atlantic Division this season as they aim to chase down Boston and Florida, but now they've been delivered a major injury blow.

Mitch Marner injured against the rival Boston Bruins

In their highly physical matchup against the Boston Bruins this past Thursday, forward Mitch Marner suffered an injury after a very uncomfortable fall during the big time matchup.

The exact injury hasn't yet been confirmed beyond a lower-body injury designation, but this awkward fall appears to be the cause of it, and now Head Coach Sheldon Keefe has updated the fans on the unfortunate situation.

Sheldon Keefe on Mitch Marner (lower body) being unlikely to play Thursday:

"We think this time is important for him, but day-to-day from that point"

Leafs host Hurricanes on Saturday

When asked about Marner, Keefe revealed that he's day-to-day going forward, and while he's unlikely to play on Thursday in Philadelphia, there's a good chance he returns for the blockbuster showdown against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.

In 62 games this season, Marner has a solid 25 goals and 76 points, and if this team is to have any hope of going deep in the playoffs, they need him at 100% going forward.
