The Toronto Maple Leafs could certainly unload Mitch Marner in the coming weeks, and now one suggestion would see them land the 2020 No. 1 overall pick.

This summer has been absolute chaos for the NHL, but with players like Martin Necas, Patrik Laine and Mitch Marner all potentially still on the move, there could be plenty more moves made yet. However, it's the Maple Leafs star that's the most likely, with this recent trade proposal seeing them target 22-year old rising star Alexis Lafreniere.

Maple Leafs Get:

Alexis Lafreniere
Jacob Trouba

Rangers Get:

Mitch Marner
Timothy Liljegren

In Lafreniere, the Maple Leafs would get a rising star that scored career highs in goals and points a season ago, but given their desire to chase a Stanley Cup right now, it doesn't make too much sense. For the Rangers however, this would be a fantastic pickup, as he would add more firepower to an already lethal lineup, and would help them get younger on the blue line too with the departure of Jacob Trouba and the incoming Timothy Liljegren.

Player for player, the value of this deal isn't too far off, but both teams are looking to win now, so this one likely won't come true, but with the Maple Leafs not wanting to lose Mitch Marner for nothing in free agency, this wouldn't be the worst idea for a trade.
