Sam Bennett has been a Maple Leafs killer in his career, and although he plays for a division rival, he reveals that plenty of fans want him in Toronto soon.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been close to breaking out in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for years, but without the grit needed in their lineup, they've struggled when the lights are on brightest. One player that could fit the billing is Panthers star Sam Bennett, who just helped the team lift their first ever Stanley Cup, who also happens to be a free agent next year while also hailing from Ontario.
Because of that, he spends plenty of time at home, and has revealed that during those times, he takes plenty of criticism from Maple Leafs fans, although those fans often express a desire to have him join the team.
«Since I'm here [in Toronto] all summer fans see me all the time, and they actually always have like, something to say, like, they hate me, but they always end with, I want you to be a Leaf one day,'» Bennett said.
After scoring 20 goals and 41 points in 69 games this past year, alongside a +17 and a Stanley Cup, Bennett's value has never been higher, and given the physical game that he plays, he could be the perfect Maple Leafs free agency target. That's still a long way away, but given all of the factors, this seems to be a match made in heaven, and with Bennett continuing to hear it from fans all the time, expect there to be some level of interest.
