A week ago, Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs suffered a lower body injury against the rival Boston Bruins, and he's not been seen on the ice for the team since. Now, Head Coach Sheldon Keefe has provided another update on the condition of his star winger.
Unfortunately for Maple Leafs fans, it's not a great update, with Keefe revealing that Marner will miss at least the next two games. With the playoffs still a month away however, it could be positive signs that this team is allowing him as long as he needs to get back to 100%, because if they are to chase a Stanley Cup, No. 16 needs to be in the lineup.
According to reports, Marner was back on the ice at practice, but didn't partake in the official practice, meaning he is taking another step towards recovery for the Leafs. With Marner out of the lineup, Toronto have tried several names in his absence, with Max Domi the latest to join Auston Matthews on the Leafs top line, but it's just not the same without his longtime running mate Marner.
The Maple Leafs have 14 games to go before the regular season comes to an end, and with both Tyler Bertuzzi and Ilya Lyubushkin also dealing with illness, the team need all of that time to get ready, and if they're healthy by the playoffs, they will be a handful for any opponent.
