Toronto Maple Leafs analyst provides update on status of Anthony Stolarz after latest injury
NHL insider and Maple Leafs analyst Nick Kypreos shared an update on the status of Anthony Stolarz today after he left Thursday night's game early with an apparent injury.
The Leafs goaltender left the game after the first period, forcing Joseph Woll to take over for the remainder of the contest.
Shortly afterward, the team officially announced that Anthony Stolarz would not return to the game.
This is troubling news for Leafs fans. Both Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll have extensive injury histories so it must be quite scary as a fan to see one of them go down.
However, NHL insider and Leafs analyst Nick Kypreos did give us a promising update on Stolarz this morning.
He did note that the goalie has a history of injuries, especially with his knees, but that his current ailment is minor at worse and he should be able to return after a couple of days of rest.
"One thing that needs to be stressed is this guy has knee injury issues. Both knees, but one worse than the other. He's had multiple surgeries, he lost a year. What happened is he felt something (last night) and got spooked a bit and is just precautionary and took himself out.
Then he got some further testing, they say structurally you're fine. Let it settle, take a few days off, you should be fine. That's how I read the tea leaves today."
Hopefully, Kyper is correct. Otherwise, we could see the team being forced to lean on Woll for an extended period.
If that is the case, they would be increasing the likelihood that Woll succumbs to an injury as well, which would leave the team with zero proven NHL-caliber goaltenders.
