The New York Rangers have posted just a 3-7 record in their last 10 overall games following the reports of the team being ready for a shakeup, and on Saturday, things hit rock bottom.
Up against the Los Angeles Kings on home ice on Saturday, the team had the opportunity to make a statement and change their momentum, but unfortunately, that didn't happen.
After allowing three goals to take the score to 5-0 in a matter of 2:18 in the second period, Igor Shesterkin was officially pulled from the game, as he had allowed five goals on just 21 shots on the day.
However, not all of the blame should lay at the feet of No. 31, who tried his best behind a defense that simply didn't have it, with the vibe in New York souring more and more by the day.
The game would ultimately end 5-1, and as the final horn sounded, the Rangers were soundly booed off the ice by the fans at Madison Square Garden after yet another embarrassing effort.
With their run as of late, the Rangers are now 15-13-1 on the season, and given the talent and lofty expectations, it's safe to say that this is much worse than anyone could have expected.
The 5-1 defeat may lay at the feet of Shesterkin, but it simply wasn't all his fault on the day, and even after becoming the highest-paid goaltender in NHL history, not even he can perform miracles behind a team that just wasn't interested in playing a 200ft game on Saturday.
