The 2011 NHL entry draft was the 2nd year of 3 straight that the Edmonton Oilers were given the first overall selection in the draft. Going into the draft there was a lot of hype over Ryan Nugent-Hoptkins and Gabriel Landeskog over who would be the first overall pick. Nugent-Hoptkins was believed to have the higher ceiling potential wise, but Landeskog was believed to be more NHL ready.
