Controversial former NHL referee Tim Peel, who was fired by the League, is calling for commentator Leah Hextall to be fired after her recent factually inaccurate comments.

Controversial former NHL referee Tim Peel once again has commentator Leah Hextall in his crosshairs.
After Hextall inaccurately stated that new Toronto Maple Leafs forward Scott Laughton would be experiencing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 1st time in his career, Peel said that she should no longer be employed.
If she actually said this she should be fired. This is absolutely embarrassing for ESPN! Maybe do some research and homework on the game you are calling!
Hextall was in fact incorrect when she said Laughton had never played in the postseason; while with the Philadelphia Flyers, Laughton played in a total of 24 playoff games.
Peel was terminated by the NHL in 2021 after he was caught on a hot mic saying that he wanted to call a penalty on the Nashville Predators during a game against the Detroit Red Wings.

Tim Peel has called out Leah Hextall before

It wasn't long ago that Peel previously targeted Hextall for an inaccuracy that she said while live on the air.
During a matchup in 2022 between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs, Hextall interviewed Leafs enforcer Wayne Simmonds and asked if he was going to fight Tampa's Pat Maroon again; the only problem was that Maroon and Simmonds had never dropped the gloves against one another.
I will take a lot of heat for this but I am a big boy. Leah Hextall doesn't even know they have not fought before. Asking Wayne Simmons's if he is soft might be one of the most ridiculous questions I have ever heard. Do your homework.

Hextall responded by saying Peel should understand that mistakes sometimes happen.
Tim, the fact was told to me in the moment by our team who is almost always right! As a retired official, you should understand mistakes can be made. No issue with you not liking the question - your opinion. I do take exception to you questioning my preparation & work ethic. Best.
