The Canucks have decided to buy out Oliver Ekman-Larsson, one of their most expensive players.
This comes just 2 years after they traded for Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland. The Canucks made this trade wanting to give up a bunch of cap dumps and they sacrificed a top-10 pick to do so.
Now, the Coyotes are not paying any of the cap dumps they acquired and have Dylan Guenther ready to come and join their team next year.
Meanwhile, the Canucks will be paying Ekman-Larsson for the next 8 years.
This is looking like some of the worst asset management in the history of the NHL. Ekman-Larsson will now have to look for a new NHL home as his time with the Canucks is now finished.
