Day after day we get more exciting news on the waiver-wire and today didn't disappoint.
We've seen some teams that are still in the playoff race start to sell, like the Washington Capitals did last night, and just like the Capitals, the Penguins are an aging team, currently on the outside of the playoffs looking in.
While the Capitals became sellers last night, the Penguins look to be making space to make a move to stay competitive. Today they announce that they are putting 26 year old
Kasperi Kapanen on waivers.
Kapanen has scored 7 goals and 20 points in 43 games for the Penguins this season, but it looks like the organization has seen enough of his inconsistency.
Coach Sullivan on Kapanen's absence from practice: "Hexy informed me before practice that he was held out because he's going to go on waivers here this afternoon.
Coach Sullivan on Kapanen: "When a team doesn't live up to expectations, change is inevitable - that's part of it. Kappy is a really talented player. To a certain extent, it's on all of us because we didn't find a way to maximize his potential."
After this season, Kapanen still has one more season on a contract that carries a cap hit of $3,200,000.
