We haven't seen Montreal Canadiens captain Shea Weber since losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning in game 5 of the Stanley cup final. Shea Weber is believed to be done because of injuries but has yet to 'officially retire'.
However good old Montreal Gazette's Brenden Kelly is at it and if if there's something he doesn't like about the Habs, he's got no problem blasting it all over the newspaper. Remember him saying Carey Price owes us an explanation? Yeah that's him and he's now on to Habs captain Shea Weber calling him out now.
The Montreal Canadiens took their annual team photos today and Shea Weber wasn't in the team pictures. Shea Weber wasn't even in Montreal, understandably because of his injuries and didn't play this season Weber didn't show up for the photos.
Brendan Kelly of the Montreal Gazette was upset Weber wasn't there and the silence when it comes to Weber, who is still getting paid by the Canadiens as he sits on the long-term injured reserve, like others who give their body to the sport.
While Kelly applauses the astonishing work done by Chantal Machabee for fans' relations, he cannot believe Weber's behaviour. Here is how he called him out:
«It's astonishing Weber never thought it was worth his while to explain to his fans what was going on with his injuries and his career.
«But I'm officially calling him out on his behaviour this season. This is the exact opposite of leadership. Leaders don't hide. Leaders come out and explain themselves even if it's not the easiest thing to do.
«Weber has instead shown contempt for his fans by refusing to speak to them and Habs management has missed a fantastic opportunity to be transparent and open with those same fans.
«He's on long-term injured reserve, which means that he still gets paid and the team doesn't have to include his US$7.8-million cap hit. In other words, it's a dream scenario for both parties. The only losers are the fans who are left out in the cold.»
As a Montreal Canadiens fan, I'm sad to see Shea Weber likely never playing again, but maybe he could have been in the team photo as he's still captain?
However I'm not going to go off on a guy who gave his blood, sweat and tears to the game.
