Jack Campbell has been in the AHL for over a month now. He started out struggling with confidence and consistency. After a couple of good games in a stretch rumors of a re-call to the NHL began.
Unfortunately for Campbell around the same time his play began to dip again. The most recent 3 game stint for Campbell in the AHL has been his worst yet.
With Campbell nowhere near the NHL still, the Oilers need to begin finding a new option in net. One suggestion would allow the Oilers to offload Campbell while adding a potential new starting goalie in the NHL.
A new post from Zach Laing on X who is an NHL reporter in Edmonton suggests the Oilers could send Campbell to Columbus.
The Blue Jackets are struggling mightily and have a goaltender who reportedly wants a trade Elvis Merzlikins. Merzlikins isn't a fantastic goaltender looking at his numbers but he is having a respectable year on one of the worst teams in the league.
If the Oilers can use Jack Campbell as a big piece of the package to land Merzlikins they could solve multiple problems in one move. The Blue Jackets would need to have more added to the trade heading their way to take on Campbell.
The Edmonton Oilers need goaltending help desperately. If they believe that Merzlikins can be a guy that thrives in Edmonton this is a move they need to explore.
