Evander Kane joined the Edmonton Oilers midway through the 2021-22 season on a one-year deal after having a previous contract terminated by the San Jose Sharks. Fans awaited to see how the association would turn out, seeing that Kane had been caught up in a plethora of off-ice issues.

Despite the skepticism from some Kane was an impact player for the oilpatch, scoring 39 points in 43 games in the regular season and an incredible 13 goals and 17 points in 15 playoff games.

As a result of his strong showing both Edmonton's front office, and Kane have said they'd like to reunite again for a longer term.

«I'll go back to when I was in a similar but very different situation a few months ago where I had the opportunity to kind of pick where I wanted to go. Edmonton was interested in me and I was interested in them,» Kane said on his initial Oilers contract at the team's end-of-season media availability. «The way I look at ityou've got two of the best players in the world. You've got a team that wants to win now and is primed to win now.»

Kane is free to renegotiate and re-sign with the Oilers at any time prior to the opening of free agency on July 13.

However, we are still waiting to see what happens with the grievance hearing regarding his contract with the Sharks.

The hearing is set to determine whether Kane will be awarded any of the outstanding $22 million and change he was owed by the Sharks when they terminated his contract earlier this season.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman wondered if the arbitrator's decision comes out as Kane having to return to the Sharks Would a side deal be in the works between San Jose and Edmonton to make sure Kane can return as an Oiler?

The Oilers have to be hoping the Sharks get stuck with a bill in order to negotiate a contract they can afford to keep Kane in the fold.

Despite Conner McDavid's positive framing of the teams performance after being swept in the conference finals by Colorado, an impact player like Kane would certainly compliment McDavid and Draisaitl.
