Michael McLeod is one of five former NHLers facing charges for an incident involving Team Canada's 2018 World Juniors team, but while he's waiting for that, both he and Dillon Dube have headed to the KHL. Now, in a mysterious move, he, along with six other players have now had their contracts terminated by Barys Astana.
It's unclear exactly what led to this move from Barys Astana, but it was a shock for everyone involved as all of their import players were quickly terminated with very little warning. While most, if not all will return to North America and look for a role potentially in the AHL or the ECHL, that's not quite an option for McLeod, who likely won't be getting a role on a team in North America anytime soon.
In 16 games for Barys Astana this season, McLeod has tallied 3 goals and 6 points, so it's likely not the performance that has forced this move from the KHL club, but whatever it is, very little reason has been given for the mysterious move.
Ultimately, we may never get to know the motive behind the move from the struggling KHL club, but for now, there are seven former NHLers looking for work, and given the number of leagues around the world, they'll no doubt draw plenty of interest.
