Over the past five years, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been hoping for deep runs in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but ultimately, they've escaped the first round just once, eventually falling in the second round of that season. With some re-tooling this summer, including the addition of Craig Berube and the shift to Auston Matthews as captain, optimism is once again high in Toronto for their chances this season.
Now, one big-time NHL personality Paul Bissonnette, who was on the Oilers bandwagon a year ago has made a major prediction on the latest episode of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast.
According to Bissonnette, the Toronto Maple Leafs will go further than the Edmonton Oilers during the 2024/25 season, followed by a prediction that the 2023/24 Western Conference Champions would regress this year. Through four games, it's easy to see why he would make this prediction, as the Oilers have looked dreadful, but with two of the best players in the world, it's never a good idea to count Edmonton out this early.
On paper, it appears the Maple Leafs may have the superior roster with the combination of Woll/Stolarz in the net along with the very improved blue line after adding Chris Tanev and Oliver Ekman-Larsson, but given what Connor McDavid did in the post-season a year ago, it's hard to count them out. Ultimately, both teams are confident they can make a run at the Stanley Cup this season, and after betting his life on it, Bissonnette is hoping that this is finally the year for Toronto.
