Over the past two weeks two insiders have revealed the asking price for Chychrun. First Nick Kypreos shared:
"That value of that contract is incredibly unique. So this one would garner the attention of a Jack Eichel. Four pieces.»
This was followed up by TSN's Darren Dreger confirming that asking price.
"The asking price expectedly is enormous and it has scared some of these GMs away, you're talking about Eichel like return here... That's too much for a lot of teams to stomach right now...The Coyotes are in no rush to move Jakob Chychrun."
The Jack Eichel return that Darren Dreger is talking about was Alex Tuch, Peyton Krebs, 2022 1st round pick and 2023 2nd round pick. Four pieces does seem like a lot, but Kypreos had this to say about what you're acquiring for that cost.
"If you happen to make a deal with Arizona, you get this guy for four Stanley Cup tries at $4.6 million. When you see guys who are now, I think comparable at double the price at $8, $9 million a year, it's easy to see why he is so attractive."
Kypreos went on to link the multiple teams to Chychrun:
"Some of the teams I'm hearing now in the mix include the Islanders, Bruins, Kings, Ducks, Oilers, Panthers and, yes, the Leafs are trying to figure out what the starter is for Jakob Chychrun. Everything points to (Rasmus) Sandin."
This situation is going to get very interesting over the next few months as a teams play a game of chicken to look at getting a deal done.
