Long gone are Mark Messier's playing days, but he's still very active behind the broadcast booth, serving as an analyst for ESPN. During a Rangers game from a few nights ago, Messier had some choice words for a Rangers forward following a shocking hit.
Messier Calls Out Brodzinski
Rangers forward Jonny Brodzinski took a nasty hit from repeat offender Tom Wilson the other night, leaving him bleeding all over the ice. When discussing the play, Messier had some interesting thoughts on the play.
"I'm so tired of players putting themselves in vulnerable positions. This is crazy. I would have played 5 years in the league if I turned my back to that. I played 26 because I never put myself in a vulnerable position."
"You don't stand facing the boards if Scott Stevens is on the ice coming after you. You can see Wilson let up on him on the hit."
"He put himself in a vulnerable position for no reason.... boys and girls do not put yourself in that position." - Mark Messier
One might think that Messier would have a tad bit of bias towards the Rangers, seeing as he spent a good chunk of his career there, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
