All the chatter these past 48 hours has been involving the Arizona Coyotes star defenceman Jakob Chychrun, but there is another defenceman that is available on the trade block this season, and while he may not bring the same star power that Chychrun brings, he will be very valuable to a team looking to add some depth on the blue line.
The Vancouver Canucks had an embarrassing start to the season and that has now led to Bruce Boudreau getting fired, Brock Boeser requesting a trade, and after some contract disputes, their former captain Bo Horvat has been traded to the New York Islanders. The Canucks are not done though as one of their defenceman could be out the door very soon as well.
Former Toronto Maple Leafs 5th overall pick Luke Schenn is on the trading block. Schenn was part of the back-to-back Stanley Cup victories with the Tampa Bay Lightning, and well, him leaving was obviously the reason they didn't win the third. Kidding.
But while he doesn't bring the offensive output some teams are looking for, he does bring a stay at home presence and a gritty attitude that a lot of teams admire when it comes to the playoffs, and at a cap hit of only $850,000, he would be an absolute steal at the asking price of what the Canucks are looking for:
Back in Toronto for a few days after a redeye from LA. As Chychrun Watch continues, another name to keep tabs on, as I just noted on @TSN690, is Luke Schenn. Lots of talk this morning that things are getting close there. CGY/BOS still in mix, heard TB is out. Price: 3rd RD pick + David Pagnotta (@TheFourthPeriod) February 13, 2023
